Cricket returns to Cornwall
After a thrilling first Festival in 2012, where the highlight featured England's Women beating India, the Festival returns in 2013. Truro will feature two high profile cricket matches and a Sporting Dinner.
The 2013 Festival will feature two Yorkshire Bank 40 Over (YB40) league match between Unicorns and Somerset on 14 June and Netherlands and Nottinghamshire on 19 June, along with a host of family activities and events. This is the first time that a YB40 match has been hosted in Cornwall and will be a real treat to cricket and sports fans generally around the county.
Cricket has always been popular in Cornwall. The county team competes in the Minor Counties Championship and won the title for the first time in their history in 2012, beating Buckinghamshire in the Final. There are also numerous Club leagues and we have had top players such as Charlie Shreck, Carl Gazzard and Tony Penberthy progressing to professional county level.
The Cornish Cricket Festival will provide inspiration to many more youngsters in the county to take up and enjoy the great game. With more youngsters participating, we hope more will progress to professional county level and thus providing a long term aim of having a Cornish person representing the full England team.
